Virginia Tech holds first practice in Shreveport for Independence Bowl

Dec 26, 2015; Shreveport, LA, USA; Virginia Tech Hokies head coach Frank Beamer walks off the field after defeating the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 55-52 in the Independence Bowl at Independence Stadium. The over/under for this game is 61.5 total points. Over under has seen the Tulsa Golden Hurricane go a 6-5-1 so far, while the Virginia Tech Hokies go 5-7. Running back Travon McMillian put the finishing touch on a brilliant, late-developing 1,000-yard rushing year. “I’m extremely happy for him”.

Iraqi forces claim success in Ramadi
Defence Secretary Ash Carter to declare Iraq’s forces lacked “the will to fight”. “It will take years to return life to the city”. People waving Iraqi flags celebrated the Ramadi victory in several cities, including Baghdad and the holy Shiite city of Karbala.

It was an odd position for the offensively-challenged, defense-centric Hokies to be in, but they made it work. “We just ran out of time”. Regardless of how bad Tulsa’s defense was, putting up 55 on anybody as an impressive offensive stat. 55 points was more than Oklahoma was able to put up on Tulsa, and only behind… guess who? He finished with a 238-121-2 record at Virginia Tech over 29 seasons. The game will mark Virginia Tech’s 23rd consecutive postseason appearance under Beamer. With the twin retirements of Beamer and Steve Spurrier (228), there is no active head coach with 200 or more wins; Kansas State’s Bill Snyder, with 193, is the closest to hitting that plateau.

Rams beat Seahawks on road for first time since 2004
Seattle is a big favorite against the Rams, with the spread hitting 131/2 points at some sports books as of Saturday afternoon. Who will win this game? Still, some of what ailed the Seahawks has been seen before, especially the inability to keep the St.

Even if the end result was fitting, the route to get there was unusual, especially given Virginia Tech’s struggles on offense in the last few seasons before Beamer announced his retirement. Just like that, he had his sweep of the three most significant single-season records for Tech pass-catchers, and the Hokies (7-6) never trailed again. “But he said everything I fell in love with when I picked Virginia Tech is still going to be there”.

Separately, a southern California brush fire that forced the closure of part of two major highways was mostly under control. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency said Saturday that authorities were monitoring areas for possible flooding.

“All I know is, what a football game”, Beamer said.

Kentucky led by 16 points early in the second half before Louisville came nearly all the way back. In addition to junior Brenden Motley, who started six games this year while Brewer recovered from a broken collarbone, the staff could turn to highly touted junior college signee Jerod Evans.

“Great win for the program and great way to finish this thing up”, Frank Beamer said.

“We haven’t been in many games like this”, Beamer said of the high-scoring bowl game that saw the two teams combine for 107 points, 1,161 total yards and 57 first downs.

Isaiah Ford caught 12 passes for 227 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown. He also rushed for a touchdown. Coach Beamer and quarterback Michael Brewer, both who aren’t returning next year, had mixed emotions after the game.

“I’ve been in a lot of games where the defense won it for us, but this wasn’t one of them”, defensive coordinator Bud Foster said after the game on the Tech radio network. “We didn’t want to take an ‘L.’ That was not an option for us”. The best way to combat that is to get him sacked, get people around him or get him sacked. “All I am is grateful and looking forward to the next step”.
