Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale storm the box-office
The success of Bajirao Mastani is high water achievement for its lead actors (Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra) and has reestablished the box office dominance of Sanjay Leela Bhansali who had hit a mixed patch after giving string of hits in his career with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Devdas (2002), Black (2005). However, the gap between the business of the two films is really narrow after ten days at the box office.

And while the makers of Dilwale were adamant from budging, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and team were confident of their product, despite in the past SRK’s film doing well as compared to SLB’s movie, when they released together back in 2008.
Dilwale has grossed INR 20.25 crores in its second weekend, after witnessing a drop of nearly 68%.
Bajirao Mastani is now set to score 100 crore by tomorrow morning, if not by tonight itself, and all eyes would be on the pace that the film picks up from this point on in the most lucrative three day holiday weekend. However the tide had turned by sunday afternoon, and from the first Monday onwards Bajirao has been beating Dilwale everyday, collecting over 10 crores each day.
On the other hand Bajirao Mastani on the day of its release earned Rs 12.80 crores, and saw an upsurge in its collections on day two as it collected Rs 15.52 crores and Rs 18.45 crores on the third day. On the day of release, several fringe groups protested against both Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale, albeit for different reasons. In all likelihood, Bajirao will leap ahead of Dilwale soon.
Bhansali’s directorial venture “Bajirao Mastani” is the love story of the Peshwa Bajirao and the half-Muslim Bundelkhandi princess Mastani.
