Nearly an inch of sleet and snow is expected to accumulate, along with about a quarter inch of ice. Snow showers will be moderate to heavy at times. Sleet and snow accumulations are expected to range from around 2 inches in southeast Wisconsin to 3 to 6 inches over south-central Wisconsin, with the highest totals well northwest of Madison.
Precipitation will be rain at the coast with sleet inland around noon Tuesday.
Winter storm watches signify a potential for hazardous driving conditions, such as ice accumulation on roads.
“This rain will be falling on sub-freezing temperatures and produce a decent glaze of ice”, Thomas said. Here we could see the highest totals in the range of 8″+”.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27.
The storm seems to mark the true beginning of winter, as forecasts suggest we won’t be likely be seeing any more 50-plus degree temperatures, at least through mid-January.
