India, who have been clubbed in Group A with Nepal and Sri Lanka, play their first match against Sri Lanka on December 25.
The match kicked off in scintillating fashion as Nepal took the lead in just the third minute after Nawayug Shreshta’s shot rebounded off the post only for Magar to follow up with a tap in. A cleverly taken set piece found Jairu unmarked inside the box on the stroke of half time but a well timed tackle from Rohit Chand took the ball off the Indian’s midfielder’s feet. The ball fell for Bimal Margar who slotted the ball into an empty net.
With this win, India went top of the table with six minutes and entered the semi-finals along with Sri Lanka.
Chhetri put India ahead in the 68th minute taking full advantage of a defensive lapse with Jitendra Karki failing to properly mark the Indian skipper, who nudged a cross from Hali Charan Narzary to score with an ease.
Chhangte was substituted in at half-time and became India’s youngest scorer in the 81st minute, as his fierce, left-footed shot went into the top corner. India stepped up the pressure in the second half and were rewarded with two goals from Robin.
Nepal came at the hosts with pluck and speed as the new defensive combination and keeper Subrata Paul were tested.
However before the influential leader could make a mark, India took the lead in the match.
“There are talents like Lallianzuala all over the Country”. It was during a Tournament that Lee Johnson and myself picked him up for the U-19 National Team. 18 year old Lallianzuala cut inside from the right flank, feinted past a Nepali defender and unleashed a venomous curling shot onto goal which found the light of day, making it his first worldwide goal for India as the score-line read 3-1. There has been no coordination so far between the main organiser and us and we have kept silent till now because, we do not want to play spoil sport at the eleventh hour.

“I have always believed in the philosophy that if they are good enough they are old enough, and Lallianzuala is good enough for us”, he said. “The boys were a bit casual at the start and got the slap which they required”.
