Rival Ravens deal Steelers stinging loss
Getting beat by Baltimore was bad enough.

After Sunday’s loss, Pittsburgh (9-6) no longer controls its destiny with the Jets (10-5) one game ahead and in position for the final wild-card spot.
Instead, the Steelers will head into their Week 17 matchup against the Browns in need of a win and some help, thanks to a surprisingly lifeless performance in a 20-17 loss. Today’s game has an early start time and airs on a network TV channel in some markets as well as being available as a live stream online option.
“They took care of the ball and we didn’t”, said Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.
Smith limited the risky receiver Antonio Brown to 61 yards, part of a strong defensive effort that gave Baltimore its first season sweep of its AFC North rivals since 2011. Mallett finished the game by completing 28 of 41 passes for 274 yards and a touchdown.
“I felt like I was placed here by something greater [than] football”, Mallett said.
The biggest issue for the Steelers today were two costly interceptions thrown by Ben Roethlisberger.
The game really did not have much meaning for the Ravens, who improved to 5-10, but the win was pleasant to see for their fan base.
Upshaw and Darryl Smith stopped Williams for no gain and Baltimore went on a 15-play, seven-minute touchdown drive that set the tone for the rest of the game. The Ravens were double-digit home underdogs for the first time against the Steelers, and Mallett joined an offense that was without a Pro Bowl running back (Justin Forsett), No. 1 wide receiver (Steve Smith), starting tight end (Crockett Gillmore), two starting linemen (left tackle Eugene Monroe and center Jeremy Zuttah) and its first-round pick (wide receiver Breshad Perriman). On fourth-and-15 at the Pittsburgh 37-yard line, a pass from Roethlisberger to Markus Wheaton fell incomplete after the two-minute warning. The Steelers didn’t get the ball again until 4 seconds remained. Williams said he checked the Pittsburgh-Baltimore score before halftime, but not after.
Winning in Denver on Monday night will be far from an easy task, and as Baltimore just showed they’re not about to go quietly when Cincinnati hosts them in Week 17.
The Steelers then settled for a field goal after an apparent 16-yard touchdown catch by Brown was overturned by a replay.
Carson Palmer threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinals, who have won nine straight.
Roethlisberger went 7 for 12 for 66 yards and an interception in the first half, a 38.9 quarterback rating.
That canceled a Baltimore touchdown that would have put the game away.
RAMS 23, SEAHAWKS 17 (at Seattle) – Todd Gurley scored on a 2-yard TD run with 10:34 left, Akeem Ayers returned a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter as St Louis ended Seattle’s five-game winning streak. Kamar Aiken, a former undrafted free agent now in his fifth season, had eight catches for 66 yards. Smith had a pair of pass interference penalties and an interception…

SPUTTERING OFFENSE: A conservative game plan enabled DeAngelo Williams to run for 100 yards and two scores, but the Pittsburgh offense never got into a rhythm.
