More British troops dispatched to help combat flooding
David Cameron has been accused of neglecting the north after parts of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester witnessed unprecedented levels of flooding over the weekend.

Prime Minister David Cameron made the announcement after hosting a conference call of the emergency COBRA committee on the floods, which have caused chaos during the post-Christmas holiday period.
Emergency teams are working to evacuate people from homes in York, while Police advised about 400 people to evacuate their areas near the River Ouse and River Foss.
The flood barrier protecting the city was lifted yesterday, resulting in hundreds of properties being flooded, after water entered the building.
Some 24 flood warnings are in place in the North East – warning of a risk to life – while there are a further 115 flood warnings and 102 flood alerts across Wales and much of western England.
We’ll do everything we can to help people in their hour of need.
Flooding has also hit the northern cities of Leeds and Manchester in recent days, as well as a string of towns and villages in the region.
Major cities including York, Leeds and Manchester have been affected in a wide area roughly 200 miles (320 kilometers) north of London.
Mr Cameron said his thoughts were with those who had been flooded as hundreds of people were evacuated and thousands were left without power in West Yorkshire and Lancashire.
The River Ouse is around 5.1m above its normal summer levels but the Environment Agency (EA) said its level has now peaked.
More rain is expected in the area Sunday although the downpours are not expected to be as severe as on Saturday.
The man, who lives on the third floor with his mother, reported there were elderly people trapped and said he hoped the Army would be rescuing them soon.
A Number 10 spokesman said: “The Prime Minister praised the work of the emergency services in dealing with this unprecedented event, but recognised this was an incredibly serious situation which had led to some very serious flooding”. Theirs is a nightmare which will last for many months as they begin the thankless task of repairing properties which suffered untold damage when rivers burst their banks, and breached defences where they exist, after rising to record levels.
The government held an emergency cabinet on Sunday (December 27), and promised more troops and more money to help the worst-hit areas.
Warnings were also issued for 94 other areas where flooding was expected and “imminent action required”.
“All those things would help us make things better in the future but I am afraid so far no government – Labour, Conservative or coalition – has been prepared to take those steps”, the Tory former environment secretary told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme. Electricity North West said some properties may be without power until Monday due to the severity of the flooding.

A spokesperson for Defra said: “We are considering all forms of support for those affected by these floods”. York is one of Britain’s top tourist attractions.
