MGM Resorts is building a casino resort in Springfield, Massachusetts, and believes a new tribal casino in Connecticut will increase competition.

The President of MGM, William Hornbuckle stated, “We’re not going to go peacefully and MGM is contemplating our options”. The Mohegans run the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, also in Connecticut.
Though the Connecticut gaming expansion is still in its infancy, it could beat MGM Springfield to the starting gates. The company has asked the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for permission to open the $800 million facility in 2018.
No one involved entered the casino, State PoliceTrooper First Class Kelly Grant said.
Analysts say the numbers released by Foxwoods and the Mohegan Tribal Authority which operates the Mohegan Sun are bright spots in the northeast where intense competition and weak consumer confidence have combined to produce a long slide in revenues. The goal is to save casino jobs and avoid the loss of revenue that might be sucked in to the Massachusetts casinos.
The bill signed by Malloy is a scaled back version of an earlier proposal that would have allowed the construction of three new casinos in Connecticut.

The fight in Connecticut illustrates the competitive strains on the casino business as more states add betting and the overall market grows only modestly.
