Taliban fighters captures more ground in Helmand, Afghanistan
Fighting around the town escalated this week and by Wednesday, December 23, the militants said they had captured all of Sangin, pinning down government troops in an army barracks.

Afghan forces scrambled on Thursday to beat back the Taliban from Sangin as the insurgents claimed to have captured almost the entire opium-rich district, following the first British deployment to the volatile region in 14 months.
