‘An initial inquiry suggests an additional soldier was injured as a result of the fire directed towards the attackers, ‘ the military said in a statement.
In the past 12 weeks Israeli forces or armed civilians have killed at least 126 Palestinians, 77 of whom authorities described as assailants.
The Israeli army said that the 56-year old auto driver tried to run over a soldier at the West Bank checkpoint in Huwara on Saturday.
Israeli troops shot and killed two Palestinians after they stabbed a soldier on Sunday near at a West Bank checkpoint, the military said.
The incidents are the latest in three months of unrelenting violence.
The Palestinian health ministry says the two were relatives, and aged 17 and 23.
An Israeli soldier was moderately injured early Sunday morning in a stabbing attack at the entrance to Jerusalem, close to the central bus station.
In the first incident, Israeli police said a Palestinian driver sped toward Israeli forces in the village of Silwad, north of Ramallah.
Israeli security forces said Hammad was shot after she attempted to attack soldiers by driving her vehicle at them. The soldier was evacuated to hospital and the assailant was said to be “receiving medical treatment”.
The Palestinians and Israeli human right groups charge Israeli security forces and vigilante citizens are using excessive force against Palestinian attackers, as they no longer pose a threat at the scenes of attack. “The terrorist whipped out a knife and tried to stab a police officer”. The Palestinians say it is rooted in frustrations stemming from almost five decades of Israeli occupation.
