Arsenal v Bournemouth: Jack Wilshere isn’t close to return admits Wenger
Having beaten Premier League title rivals Manchester City 2-1 on their past excursion, Arsenal were searching for a triumph that would have sent them to the highest point of the table.

Graziano Pelle and Cedric Soares will miss Southampton’s trip to West Ham in the Barclays Premier League on Monday.
The Gunners are looking to recover from their 4-0 defeat to Southampton on Boxing Day and Arsene Wenger has opted to partner Gabriel with Per Mertesacker in central defence, while Kieran Gibbs replaces Monreal at left-back.
Despite dominating possession throughout the game, Arsenal remained defensively jittery and failed to create enough threatening chances against a Southampton team that had lost five of its last six games.
In fact, Wenger suggested in the build up to our defeat against Southampton that there was a danger of being too confident after a big win. “We have two short-term worries and we want to respond”.
Arsenal face Bournemouth at the Emirates on Monday 28 December at 5.30pm, where a victory could take them top of the Premier League as Leicester do not play their next match until Tuesday, when third-placed Manchester City travel to the King Power Stadium.
“These players have fantastic spirit and they will show that in 48 hours”, Wenger told reporters.
The Gunners chief confirmed Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez will be out at least until February.
“We are in a job where we have to respond”.
“I think we lacked a lot in terms of how we started the game”, Mertesacker told Arsenal Player.
“Unfortunately, there’s no possible career without disappointment”.
“I felt we were physically not at our best”.
Wenger refused to blame Arsenal’s lengthy injury list for their defeat – and believes his squad is strong enough to challenge for the championship even without a host of key players.
“I think we were unfortunate also”.
“We went out there with the mentality of fighting hard for each other firstly and hoping the play comes from there”. The 25-year-old midfielder picked up the only yellow card of the match and has only just returned from a hamstring injury he picked up at the end of November. But sometimes as well the solution is inside and you have to accept that because we are a club which has always given a chance to layers we have educated.

“Technically we are very good and we can play football but against Arsenal there was more confidence in our game”.
