US post-holiday travelers can expect a mix of stormy weather this weekend, with blizzard conditions in New Mexico and western Texas, while flooding rain hits the southern plains from south Texas through in, forecasters said.
Jenkins said in a statement Sunday night that as many as 600 homes were damaged in Rowlett.
The damage stretched over a 40-mile area from south of Dallas to north-east of the city.
Collin County is about 45 miles northeast of Dallas.
Stephanie Parker is the emergency manager for Ellis County, which is about 30 miles south of Dallas.
Barbara Perkins and her husband were hunkered down inside a closet when violent winds peeled the roof off their MS home.
“If you do not need to be on the road, please stay off the road”, he said at a news conference. Another person was killed in Arkansas.
Lt. Sean Edwards, a Birmingham police spokesman, said trees are down and people were trapped inside damaged houses but there were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths.
Some parts of the Panhandle could see as many as 14ins of snow, with sub-zero wind chills and accumulating ice. Residents in Lubbock and Amarillo prepared for an evening storm. He says the bodies were those of two people authorities had been searching for since tornadoes touched down Wednesday.
“Until they know for sure where those folks are, they’re going to keep looking, because we’ve had in some cases houses leveled, and they’re just not there anymore”, Flynn said.
On Saturday (local time) two deaths were reported in MS from two people who had been missing since Wednesday.
Urbina said the extent of the damage was still uncertain but that nearby roads had been shut due to debris and that the damage to the homes was likely extensive enough to render some “inhabitable”. Severe storms are forecast for overnight tonight and into Monday as a strong cold front pushes through. Tornadoes were possible and residents were being asked to remain alert.
This weather system “has a history of producing heavy rain and flooding/flash flooding over much of the southeastern U.S., and the threat for excessive rainfall will persist”. Four inches of rain walloped Mobile, Ala., on Wednesday. The state Department of Emergency Management said eight storm-related injuries were reported.
The tornadoes also killed six people in Tennessee and one each in Arkansas and Alabama, bringing the three-state total to 18.
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley announced Saturday that he would visit weather-damaged areas in Coffee County.
Among the dead from several days of rough weather were seven people from MS, including a 7-year-old boy who died while riding in a vehicle that was swept up and tossed by storm winds.
The names of the victims have not been released, but the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency said the deceased are a 19-year-old female and two 22-year-old males. Horton says the inmates were cooperative and moved to three state correctional facilities in Elmore County.
Red Eagle is a minimum-security correctional facility and is 3 miles north of Montgomery near the Tallapoosa River.
“Details are still sketchy”, said Jason Holmes, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
A confirmed tornado touched down in Southwest Birmingham Christmas night.
Tornadoes typically hit the region the hardest in the spring, but such storms can happen any time of the year.
Seven people were killed by more than a dozen tornadoes that ripped through Mississippi. Brown said that, according to estimates, more than 100 structures appear to have water damage. The flash flood watch there lasts until 6 a.m.
Other parts of the country face possible storms and blizzards Saturday.
Feeding on unseasonably warm air, storms left a trail of destruction in rural communities from Alabama to IL.
