“To me Darth Vader is one of the most iconic figures in the story”, he told The Independent. “I don’t want to give anything away”. “He carried an aura of leadership, toughness and didn’t say much to get his point across”.
The fitness trainer tests his own toughness by competing in half-marathons and endurance events. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2002.
“If I’m calling them and they’re like ‘I need to have your name, please, ‘ and they’re like ‘well, we need your real name, please, ‘ and of course I’m like ‘this is my real name, ‘ ” Vader said. He doesn’t wear a mask like the Sith Lord in his driver’s license photo, but the ID does, in fact, name him as “Darth Vader” of Canandaigua. He’s aiming to surpass 50 and expects to hit that milestone next summer, his fifth year completing the Tough Mudder races. “But for something like this, I’ll go”, he said. Eagerly flashing his I.D.to prove he is indeed Darth Vader.
Vader is now on a bone marrow transplant list at Seattle’s VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Washington state and a crowdsourcing fundraiser has collected just over $15,000 to help with medical expenses not covered by insurance.
During the service a scene in which Luke Skywalker tries to convert his father Anakin – Darth Vader – to the good side of the Force, was shown.
