‘Star Wars’ Pulls In $1 Billion At Record Pace
(AP Photo). Director J.J. Abrams, second from left, speaks next to producer Kathleen Kennedy, left, actress Daisy Ridley, second from right, and actor John Boyega during a press conference of their latest movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in Shangha… Star Wars also broke Jurassic World’s biggest ever opening weekend record with $529m globally. A New Hope suggests, well, hope, and The Force Awakens points to a newly reinvigorated Force in the movie and for the wider series.

The previous record-holder was Jurassic World, which reached one billion dollars in 13 days in June – and that with the benefit of record grosses in China.
While The Force Awakens seems like the flawless title for the first live-action Star Wars film in a decade and the first one with the Original Trilogy characters in over 30 years, the film nearly had a very different title. Hidalgo specified that it would’ve been distinct, barely, from the Expanded Universe classic Shadows of the Empire by author Steve Perry, which took place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and involved Darth Vader attempting to turn Luke to the Dark Side.
Meanwhile, JJ Abrams’s The Force Awakens has grossed Rs 10.02 crore within four days of its release in India. The look at a stepfather’s attempts to outshine his wife’s stud of a first husband, came in second with a strong $38.8 million from 3,271 theaters.
And third in the mix – a film that looks at the life of the creator of the Miracle Mop, called “Joy”.
Worldwide results exclude China, where the film premiered on Sunday but will only open to the public on January 9, according to Disney. Unable to make much on its nostalgia trip, the remake of the 1980s cult classic debuted in eighth to an estimated $10.2 million. However, it did not rain for DMG Entertainment and Alcon Entertainment.
