For the ordinary person, the effects of air pollution in New Delhi are palpable: grey, overladen skies, difficulty in breathing and the smell of vehicle exhaust that overhangs the city. The Delhi government is also set to enforce the abnormal-even system from 1 January, 2016, to lower the population of cars at the roads that allows you to fight pollutants.

The Government of NCT of Delhi shall issue advertisements to inform commercial traffic of the bypass routes and the imposition of the ECC for entry of the vehicles into Delhi, the Supreme Court said in its order.
A temporary ban has been ordered on the sale of diesel cars in India’s capital by the Supreme Court.
The SC bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur also banned the entry of trucks registered before 2005 into the city and hiked up by 100% the Green cess levied on commercial vehicles entering Delhi.
The move has received the support from environmentalists, who are pushing for the order to be extended beyond Delhi to other cities that are experiencing high levels of air pollution as well.
The court has tightened the rules as it emphasised on enforcing the ban on burning of municipal waste in the capital besides ordering the construction sites to follow National green Tribunal(NGT) guidelines.
The plan also proposed a re-constitution of Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) committee which represents the experts and stakeholders from Centre and Delhi government.
The court said the order will not impact India’s “common man“, according to a Reuters report.
Delhi’s air routinely worsens in the winter months, as millions of poor people light fires for warmth and cloud cover traps pollutants.
In a significant step, the Supreme Court also directed all taxis in Delhi to be converted to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Recently, the court had backed the Kejriwal government’s odd-even policy on private cars, as reported by IBNlive.
