The offerings will include guided hikes, fat-tire bike rides, snowshoe walks and a 5-kilometer run.
Look for directions to the parks and the full list of participating parks on the state park website, oregonstateparks.org. Continue past Middle Falls or return to the trailhead.
One such hike will take place at Smith Rock State Park near Terrebonne, starting at 10 a.m.at the green yurt welcome center.
– The first day of 2016 on Friday, Jan. 1, will also be a “free” day for residents to visit state parks at no cost. “Spending some quality time with friends and family in these stunning landscapes is a flawless way to begin that celebration”, said Mike Murphy, state parks director.
Parks in the Portland area with First Day Hikes are L.L. “Stub” Stewart Memorial State Park, 9 a.m.at the Hilltop Day-use Area; Milo McIver State Park, 10 a.m.at the Riverbend lower boat launch parking lot, and Tryon Creek State Natural Area, 9 a.m.at the Nature Center.
