Two of those came from rookie outside linebacker Nate Orchard, who showed the pass rushing skill he demonstrated at Utah. If the Niners are playing for their jobs at the end of this season, Sunday’s game should bring about a mass layoff.

The Pittsburgh Steelers no longer control their postseason destiny after laying an egg Sunday in Baltimore.

Additionally he could see some snaps as a running back with Shaun Draughn already ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Lions . DuJuan Harris ran for a team-high 73 yards only five days after being signed off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad .

But it was the Ravens defense against the Steelers that made it look like they had something to play for, as they improved to 5-10 by putting the clamps on one of the league’s hottest offenses of late.

This is not the kind of quarterback performance that will lead the Steelers to a playoff appearance, or wins should they get there. “Records, score, how good they’re playing – nothing matters when you’re playing Pittsburgh”.

“We want to make them run the ball, and we were definitely OK with trying to stop the run with just six people in the box”, nose tackle Brandon Williams said. On Sunday, he became the fourth quarterback to start for Baltimore in a span of six weeks and he lit up the joint, completing 28 of 41 passes for 274 yards and a TD. Mallett is the second quarterback that they’ve used who previously started elsewhere.

Pittsburgh’s defense got off to another slow start this week, allowing 13 points to the Ryan Mallett-lead Ravens offense in the first half.

Foster called the win the Ravens’ “best Christmas present ever”.

In the loss, the Steelers snapped a pair of notable streaks. For the Steelers to steal the wild-card spot from the Jets, the Jets must lose to the Bills in Week 17 and the Steelers must beat the Browns.

“I give those guys credit”, Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin said.

“When you have failure in life, sometimes woven into the failure are great successes and great wins”, Ravens Coach John Harbaugh said.

“Obviously, they did a good job stopping us today, but we still had a couple of times to make plays”, Roethlisberger said. “We had to take [Brown] out of the game”. Running back DeAngelo Williams had 100 yards and two touchdowns on his 17 carries.

“It means a lot to this team, to this defense, the way we ended the game on defense, just to let them know the defense, we are still here”, Webb said.

Baltimore, which came in with a minus-15 turnover differential, had two takeaways and did not commit a turnover.

The Ravens held the ball for 34:20 and ran 73 plays compared to 57 for the Steelers. On fourth-and-15 at the Pittsburgh 37, a pass from Roethlisberger to Markus Wheaton fell incomplete following the two-minute warning. Yes, the Ravens won four out of their five encounters with the Steelers and that right there should be an interesting thought heading into tomorrow’s game. They can still win the division, though they will need some help.

The Steelers had the opportunity to further solidify a playoff position with a victory over the bottom-feeding Ravens.

The Steelers got the ball on their own 20 with just over two minutes remaining.

Roethlisberger threw his second interception a few minutes later. Chris Givens, traded to Baltimore in October, had two catches for 45 yards.

After the Ravens stuffed Williams on a fourth-down run following the opening kickoff, Mallett’s first drive with Baltimore could not have gone better.

With quarterback Ben Roethlisberger rounding into form during a campaign that has seen him battle through injuries, the Steelers were flying high.

Steelers receiver Antonio Brown, who had a touchdown catch nullified by replay, insisted Pittsburgh did not take Baltimore lightly.
