For the second year running, ITV’s blockbuster series Downton Abbey used Alnwick Castle as one of its locations for its Christmas Day feature-length episode. He revealed, “We easily could have gone for a 7th season, but if I’d have said “We haven’t got Maggie” it would have been a shadow of itself”.
But a spokeswoman for production company Carnival Films denied the cast had any part to play in the decision to end Downton after six series, with the final episode airing on Christmas Day.
“The world is a different place from the way it was, my lord, and Downton Abbey must change with it”, Carson replies.
“I’m glad about the movie question because it replaces the question of three years which was always, “When is the show going to end?”
The Downton Abbey Christmas special will air at 8:45pm on ITV on Christmas Day (25 December 2015).
She admitted: “One of my favourite purchases is a fur-trimmed high-collared orange and green coat that Lady Edith [Laura Carmichael] wears when she first kisses Bertie Pelham [Harry Hadden-Patton] when she’s staying in Gregson’s apartment”.
ITV bid a fond farewell to the beloved drama on Christmas eve in an epic two hour special.
Other popular entertainment programmes on Christmas Day were the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special and Mrs Brown’s Boys.
