Cousins stars for Redskins against Eagles
Even if they fall short this weekend, they will still have a shot to win in the final week.

Though some may consider this a testament to how atrocious the NFC East has been this year, the Redskins (8-7) have shown that they are by no means a dysfunctional team that just happened to be the cream of a rotten crop. Nose tackle Bennie Logan missed the Washington game with a calf injury. You are learning new verbiage, learning new plays, learning new systems. The system is the product of the players. But all those decisions that are made in season were always… we always went over who was available for putting a guy on [injured reserve].
“It didn’t go our way, but I don’t think we’re a bad football team”, Kelly said Monday.
“It’s a big game for us to keep our momentum, but we also have to be smart about the guys that are a little bit [injured] and get them well for the playoffs”, Gruden said. With the running game barely producing this year, the pressure continues to be put on Cousins. The Redskins are vulnerable to the run, ranking 28th with an average of 129.8 yards per game allowed. After losing to the Redskins, the Eagles (6-9) are apparently assured of a losing record, which is Kelly’s first as a head coach. By no fault but their own, the Eagles have had tremendous troubles throughout the 2015 regular season in regards to the performance of their offensive line.
Cousins’ fourth touchdown pass, to wide receiver Pierre Garcon from 13 yards, and a two-point conversion gave the Redskins a commanding 38-17 lead. Given what he’s been able to do for this team, the Redskins are going to have a hard time letting him walk, and they really shouldn’t let him go. He will have also silenced every critic that said he and the Redskins couldn’t do it at the start of this season, and I imagine he has just one response to it all… Bradford completed all four of his passes for 50 yards. Murray has only 633 yards and five touchdowns on 181 carries. Riley Cooper dropped a 37-yard attempt.
Bradford said Saturday he would like to return next year but that it wasn’t his decision. In the playoffs, we’ll find out for sure. I have to be the leader of this offense and the receiver that our team and this city needs.
Amid speculation the Eagles might take some of Kelly’s authority away, the coach became flippant. The lackluster running game goes back to poor blocking. That move never came close to happening this season.
“It’s just the organization’s [philosophy] and I agree with it”, Kelly said.
The Redskins came out sharp on their second drive of the second half, carving up this Eagles undermanned defense and mauling them up front. But he was a larger part of the offense at least. Sam Bradford is a free agent when this season ends.

The last time the Eagles had much success in the postseason was in the 2008 season when Andy Reid was still the team’s head coach. But Chip Kelly isn’t most people. One of the league’s best attacks during Kelly’s first season is now mediocre – and though Kelly said the coaching must be better, it’s the roster he assembled that is failing to execute.
