Afghanistan Cricket Creates History, Secures Place In ICC ODI Top 10 Rankings
Afghanistan staged a stunning fightback on Friday to beat Zimbabwe by 49 runs in a low-scoring one-day global in Sharjah. Afghanistan qualified for the World Cup for the very first time and made their debut against Bangladesh.

At Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Cremer was lethal with the ball finishing with figures of 5-20 and despite Noor Ali Zadran’s half-century, Afghanistan were all out for 131 in the 39th over.
However, Zimbabwe could only muster a woeful score of 82 in reply as only three batsmen made it to double figures.
Only the top eight ranked nations on the ICC ODI rankings will get automatic qualification for the next 50-over World Cup, while the rest will have to go through a qualification process that involves associate sides. By the sixth over, they were three down for just 12 runs, much to the delight of a packed crowd of Afghanistan supporters.
Hamza picked up four wickets but Nabi’s loopy offspin yielded two scalps, including Chigumbura’s which broke Zimbabwe’s spine, putting them into a hard situation.
The win followed Afghanistan’s 3-2 victory in the ODI series in Zimbabwe in October.

After a lifeless batting display, Zimbabwe is likely to recall experienced batsman Hamilton Masakadza, who did not play a part in Friday’s match together with bowler Tinashe Panyangara.
