NORAD to track Santa’s movements for 60th year
NORAD made a decision to run with the idea, and now has hundreds of volunteers working around the clock, tracking Santa’s every move.

Check out NORAD’s Santa Tracker here, and download the Android, iOS, and Windows Phone apps. Volunteers design and build unique, 3-D tracking software so that children can follow the progress of Santa Claus as he speeds around the globe bringing gifts to all good little girls and boys.
“But before it’s quite time for that Christmas Eve snooze, you get to check on Santa, and there’s nothing to lose!” Mrs. Obama answered children’s questions about Santa’s exact location using NORAD’s global Santa Tracker and let the children know when to expect Santa to visit their homes.
Starting at 5 a.m. EST on December 24th and continuing through 5 a.m. ET on December 25th.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command usually focuses on USA airspace threats, but switches gears each year to help children track Santa’s journey.
The military’s North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, at Peterson Air Force Base, launched its 60th year of tracking Santa’s Yuletide adventure.
Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number went into to the Continental Air Defense Command’s operations hotline. Not wanting to crush the spirits of children, then-colonel Harry Shoup told his colleagues to play along and provide callers with Santa’s exact location.
You can also watch videos of Santa soar over great landmarks and large cities on the site, as his flight plan takes him overhead, of course.
