The internet is full of Christmas day hoverboard injuries
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issues a statement over the safety of hoverboards.

It was one of the most requested gifts for under the tree this year, but Amazon is no longer going to sell them.
As we’ve detailed before, the main reason why hoverboards are exploding appears to be battery-related. The potential fire hazard caused ban on the transportation of such gadgets in major airlines.
In the USA, the boards have been rejected by the country’s three biggest airlines – American Airlines, Delta and United. It happened when the item was being charged, as it works on lithium ion batteries, but it also spontaneously combusted while being used. One Alabama man was riding his hoverboard when it burst into flames on a sidewalk.
“CPSC has received dozens of reports of injuries from hospital ERs that we have contracts with and they continue to feed us real-time data”, he said.
Nationwide, the commission is looking into 70 reported injuries ranging from concussions to fractures and internal organ injuries.
Some fall down on their first try on the self-balancing two-wheeled board, but most can easily learn how to ride the hoverboard.
It suffered fire damage after a hoverboard caught fire while charging Sunday night.

Lydia and Silas Wagner had some help from mom and dad with spotting, and tested out their hoverboards on the soft and hard surfaces in the house before taking them out to the garage. If you do not think you could find the seller again, were a problem to arise with your board, that should be a warning to you not to do business with them.
Do not charge the hoverboard overnight or while it’s out of sight.

Most hoverboards take around two to four hours to fully charge up. “If you purchased a hoverboard, it is important to take extra precautions to insure the safety of your family and property”, explains Augusta Fire Chief Chris James. While this does not rule out counterfeits, the absence of such a mark means your safety is likely not a priority for that manufacturer. This is why some physicians recommend that riders wear a helmet and elbow pads while aboard.
