The parliament also approved his choice of cabinet, which remained unchanged from the previous one under ex-Prime Minister Garibashvili, except for the appointment of a new foreign minister to replace himself.

He was appointed foreign minister in September this year.

Kvirikashvili was nominated by the Georgian Dream ruling coalition on Friday as new prime minister following Wednesday’s surprise resignation of Irakli Garibashvili.

The decision will be put to President Giorgi Margvelashvili for formal ratification.

Kvirikashvili became deputy prime minister and economy minister after Georgian Dream defeated former president Mikheil Saakashvili’s party in an election in October 2012, taking control of both the government and legislature.

“At this stage, I will introduce the same list of government to parliament, which is a team where I have been from the very first day”, he writes.

Kvirikashvili added that after his approval as prime minister he would “deeply and thoroughly” review the work of each ministry and could make same changes in the government.
