A very mild December is drawing to a close with what could be New Jersey’s first real taste of winter. Mostly sleet is expected by the early part of the Tuesday morning commute, but take note of the green, the rain, approaching the south coast.

Early indications are snowfall accumulations will generally be 1-3 inches with lesser amounts south of the Massachusetts Turnpike and slightly more across northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. It will be mostly cloudy with a high near 39 degrees, and there will be a 20 percent chance of precipitation, according to the website.

Rock salt, snow shovels and a final check of whether the snowblower still works should all be on the list before the first winter storm of the season arrives Monday night and into Tuesday.
