Begin the new year by giving blood
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides worldwide humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. “This is a great opportunity for residents of Chicago to rally around a life-saving cause”, said Martha Carlos, chief communications officer for the American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois.

“During the winter months and especially around the holidays, blood donations tend to decline”, said Cara Leyna Noble, external communications manager of the Red Cross New York-Penn Blood Services Region.
She said it was always hard to get enough blood donations during the festive season, but people did not need to stop celebrating completely.
Marty Haley makes donating blood look easy!
A total of 6,000 people need to donate blood every day to meet the needs of hospital patients in the UK.
Blood and platelets are not just used after accidents. Donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 years old with parental consent), weight a minimum of 110 pounds, and must present a valid picture ID.
OWASA and the American Red Cross are holding a blood drive from 10 o’clock until 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.

For the ninth year, the American Red Cross and Dunkin’ Donuts will partner to help increase donations and reward generous donors during National Blood Donor Month.
