‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Breaking Box-Office Records
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” shattered box office records with an estimated $517 million (£350 million) in worldwide ticket sales on its opening weekend, a staggering debut that re-established the celebrated space saga as a global phenomenon.

The overall opening weekend record of $208.8 million, set by Jurassic World earlier this year, will obviously be broken, but by how much?
A number of records were also set for advance ticket sales that led to the biggest opening ever for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The movie is on track to have the biggest December opening ever, topping “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”, which took in $85 million in the US and Canada on its opening weekend in December 2012, reports AP’s Ryan Nakashima. When Friday numbers were tallied, the official first-day total was an estimated $120.5 million. Those folks now appear to be correct as updated Saturday forecasts from outlets like Deadline have the movie tracking for a 0 million opening weekend. The box office Force, that is, with an unprecedented opening weekend now in progress.
Fandango announced yesterday that, as of Thursday pre-opening, the seventh Star Wars movie had already sold more tickets than any other movie in Fandango history.
“Star Wars” fever has spread through movie theaters around the globe, even reaching the White House, as the franchise yet again began toppling box-office records with waves of lightsaber-wielding fans.
That puts it within striking distance of the global opening weekend record of $316.1 million and the record for a worldwide – that is foreign and domestic grosses combined – opening weekend of $524.9 million within range.
Ample Hills Creamery in Brooklyn, New York is churning out Star Wars ice cream, after its co-founder Brian Smith struck up an unlikely friendship with Disney CEO Bob Iger. One of the things that “The Force Awakens” does really well is that it broadens those opportunities and entry points.
“Our sole focus has been creating a film that delivers that one-of-a-kind Star Wars experience, and director J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and the Lucasfilm team have outdone themselves”, said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios.

And a raunchy comedy with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler opened in third place, at $13.4 million in sales.
