Clemson will be without three players, including one of its top playmakers, for Thursday’s Orange Bowl matchup with Oklahoma.
Cain ranks second on the Tigers in receiving yards (582), averaging 17.1 yards per catch, and had a run of five-straight games with a touchdown this season.
According to multiple reports, freshman wide receiver Deon Cain, senior kicker Ammon Lakip and junior tight end Jay Jay McCullough have been sent home. However, it is believed that Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney will address the matter on Wednesday morning. Cain had emerged as quarterback Deshaun Watson’s favorite deep threat. He also serves as the kickoff specialist. Lakip, a senior kicker, had a three-game suspension earlier this season after a spring arrest for cocaine possession and DUI. Lakip was 8-of-8 on the season on extra point attempts and 1-of-1 on his lone field goal try. McCullough is a reserve tight end with no receptions this year. Among those players was freshman receiver Deon Cain who was an emerging star for the Tigers.
