Anyone in the community is invited to bring a prayer request to drop in the red kettle at a drive-through kettle stand from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m.at the Salvation Army, 736 West Main Street.
“It absolutely amazes me how something so small that it fits in the palm of your hand, can make such a difference in the lives of so many in need”. This year, Major Nathan Johnson said, that the goal for kettles is $140,000 in Rapid City and $45,000 in the rest of the Black Hills.
“We are taking out the presents to the people’s vans”, said volunteer Evan Weld.
“It’s making it really bright to see what my kids faces are gonna be like on Christmas”, McVay said. Although still $113,625 from the total goal, officials say last weekend’s record breaking donations of $25,359 helped tremendously. “I’m proud to say I’m from South Dakota”, Anderson said.
“I can’t donate every single time I come in, and today, I just don’t happen to have any cash on me”, said Caitlin Beck.
It’s been 11 days since a fire ripped through a church in Huntingdon County, destroying hundreds of toys meant for children in need this holiday.
Another note stated that their mom loved to give and they hope this will help her continue to serve others.

Some 900 families will have gifts under their Christmas tree Friday thanks to donations and the Salvation Army. “Unfortunately, there have been many locations without a bell ringer and that has caused this very drastic shortfall”.
