Another reported case in Pennsylvania involves a person who did not report eating at a Chipotle in the week leading up to November 14, when the illness started.
The State Health Department told News 9 two of those sickened after eating at Chipotle in Oklahoma are from Cleveland County, and the other one is from Canadian County. CDC can not say for now how much possible it is that all the cases having both DNA fingerprint are linked, but the federal agency has said that it is performing tests to know the true.
The CDC said Monday three people ate at an Oklahoma location and one each in Kansas and North Dakota locations.
After the Centers for Disease Control yesterday stated that it was investigating a more recent E. coli outbreak linked to Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG – Get Report), a formerly bullish analyst JPMorgan downgraded the stock, saying that the worst may not be over in terms of sentiment and that estimates will need to bottom before he can recommend the stock again.
Chipotle has put new food safety measures in place after reports of E. coli and norovirus at its restaurants. Ill people ranged in age from 5 years to 84, with a median age of 18, the CDC reported.
“We have indicated before that we expected that we may see additional cases stemming from this, and CDC is now reporting some additional cases”, Arnold said in the email. Chipotle has started increasing food safety training of its employees as well.
The latest reports take the number of people sickened by E.coli outbreaks linked to Chipotle to 58 and the states affected to 12.
The company said it has completed a comprehensive review of its food safety programs focused on each of its ingredients, and the process of implementing related changes has already begun. Those points of differentiation have always been marketing strengths for Chipotle, which has sought to distinguish itself as being of higher quality than traditional fast-food chains. This time around, the E. coli illnesses were reportedly caused by a different strain.
