Westerners in Beijing Are Warned of Potential Threats
The UK and US embassies in China have issued warnings to their citizens to be on guard for possible threats against Westerners in Beijing on or around Christmas Day, saying they have received information regarding the popular Sanlitun region of the city.

Following the alert, armed police, commando units and ambulances were deployed in Sanlitun Area.
A yellow alert is the second lowest level in China’s four-level security alert system.
News agency reports indicate an increased police presence in Sanlitun, a popular shopping area that is also home to some embassies.
The American embassy, in an email sent to American citizens living in the capital, said the same warning was given to US government employees in Beijing. The U.S. embassy did not elaborate on the nature of the threat or its source.
Patrols were particularly enhanced around the area, one of the major entertainment and embassy districts in the city where many Westerners frequent.
The area has been the site of occasional violence against foreigners, including a grisly murder in August when a Chinese attacker stabbed a French man and his Chinese wife with a sword.
As Christians around the world are preparing to celebrate the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ, the United States and Britain have issued a warning about possible threats against Westerners in the Chinese capital Beijing on or around Christmas Day.

Regular police tend not to carry guns in China and gun crime is uncommon.
