In the first half, LSU had 273 total yards of offense, 170 of them coming from rushing, while Texas Tech had 188 total offensive yards with 173 yards come from passing.
LSU scored again the next series on Harris’ 26-yard designed keeper, grabbing a 42-20 lead with 9 seconds left in the third quarter to clear out a once-packed NRG Stadium – all the while Cameron graced the sideline.
Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes (5) runs out of the pocket as he receives pressure from LSU defensive tackle Davon Godchaux (57) and defensive end Lewis Neal (92) during the first half of the Texas Bowl NCAA college football game Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, in Houston. The Red Raiders have averaged gaining 594.5 yards per game in 2015, a figure topped only by Baylor’s 604.6 entering the bowl season.
NOTES: RB Leonard Fournette, who broke the LSU record for rushing touchdowns in a season with 21, is not eligible for this year’s NFL Draft.
LSU is now 49-3 under Miles against non-conference opponents, and the SEC is 2-0 in its inaugural Texas Bowl appearances. Fournette has came close on three occasions this season, and has yet to face a run defense as bad as Texas Tech’s. He went untouched through the Texas Tech defense for 43 yards, showing that the 230-lb. power back was also the fastest player on the field.
About LSU Led by head coach Les Miles, the Tigers have the the nation’s leading rusher.
“I would say the night was productive”, he said. The Tigers’ campus is about 270 miles from Houston and Texas Tech is more than 520 miles away. On second down from the 13, Harris completed an 11-yard pass to Dupre to setup first-and-goal at the 2. Harris also connected on some nice throws and ended the night 13-of-22 passing for 254 yards and a touchdown to go along with the interception.
The swarming defensive front held Tech to 399 yards – almost 200 under its season average – helping guarantee the Tigers a Top-25 ranking to end the season.
LSU took over at its 34 and used Fournette for three-straight that netted 38 yards to the Red Raiders 28.
Guard Devaugntah Williams paced a balanced Texas Tech attack, and the Red Raiders handled Richmond 85-70 on Tuesday at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.
Fournette finished the game with 256 total yards (212 rushing, 44 receiving) and five touchdowns. Red Raiders quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 370 yards and four touchdowns, and LSU needed a key play in the third quarter to change momentum.
“Oh yeah, I knew where [I stood]”, Fournette said.
“It was important that we pick up speed and get back at it”, Miles said.

Tonight, starting wide receiver Devin Lauderdale will not play due to suspension meaning that Texas Tech will be even less potent on the outside.
