AFR: Sunday’s leak about Brees not a good look for Saints
What should we take from the New Orleans Saints 38-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars?

“I would like to see more productivity”, he said when asked about the defensive backfield personnel changes. “Once you get between the lines, you flip the switch, and it’s all about competing at a high level”. “Sure enough, he did it again”.
Jacksonville has dropped four of five since beating Tennessee in late November, and the defense was the primary culprit in each of those losses. Hightower rushed for more than 100 yards for the first time since December 12, 2010, when he played for the Arizona Cardinals. It was a surprise party in New Orleans.
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and Drew Brees during the two-minute warning against the Detroit Lions at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans Monday, December 21, 2015. Brees said all week that he would play today, however, and it appears as though he’s on track to do so. He looked like Drew Brees, and the Jaguars’ pass rush looked like it had looked all season – ineffective and an area that has to be addressed in the offseason in a big-time, overhaul-type of way. He threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter alone, staking the Saints to a 14-0 lead, the first score a 17-yarder to Michael Hoomanawanui, the second a 71-yarder to Brandin Cooks.
“You’re so focused on the game, it’s locked in and laser focus”, said Brees, who played with a creative tape job to limit the stress on the arch of his foot.
Delvin Breaux put on a clinic at the cornerback position, breaking up passes all over the field and coming away with an interception.
Jacksonville’s offense, meanwhile, was unable to get anything going against one of the NFL’s worst defenses until just before halftime. The two-point conversion attempt failed and it was 24-6 at half.
Brees, who completed 25 of 36 passes in his 13th career 400-yard game, did not practice during the week because of a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, but the injury did not seem to faze him.
Earlier this month, CBS Sports reported that the Saints would be willing to trade Payton, who has two years remaining on his contract.
Despite the gutsy win, the Saints and their fans may still feel more pain. In the case of second-year quarterback Blake Bortles, as well as top receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, the day didn’t go so poorly. Allen Hurns caught eight passes for 106 yards with touchdowns of six and 20 yards, and Marqise Lee added a two-yard touchdown catch. It’s the same script for the Jaguars who get a lot of big plays for Bortles, but the defense gives up a bunch of yards through the air and a couple silly mistakes doom them in the end.

NOTES: Bortles reached 300 yards passing for the sixth time this season, tying Mark Brunell for the most such outings in a single season by a Jaguars QB….
