Harris finished with 254 yards through the air, including four completions to deep-ball threat Malachi Dupre for 96 yards. Trey Quinn had a 46-yard reception that setup one of Fournette’s scores. Texas Tech finishes at 7-6, comforted in knowing Mahomes returns to campus and the 2015 defense does not.

Red Raiders’ Mahomes passed to Grant for a 3-yard TD. The last time was at the 10:28 mark of the third quarter when Reginald Davis scored on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes. When Texas Tech has the ball against LSU in Texas Bowl
Jakeem Grant, Tech’s all-time leading receiver, could give LSU nightmares if the Tigers don’t account for him in open space. The Tigers’ game plan was simple: get the ball to All-American running back Leonard Fournette, again and again and again.

NOTES: Fournette’s 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter tied him with tailback LaBrandon Toefield for most touchdowns in a season with 19.

LSU’s offense gets tweaked in Texas Bowl
Texas Tech is going to score some whether LSU is ready to play or not, but they could push 50 if LSU isn’t focused defensively. He also eclipsed the LSU single-season record for rushing touchdowns, finishing with 22 after a four-TD night on the ground.

Mahomes threw a solid pass but it bounced off the receivers shoulder pads and found the hands of LSU junior safety Rickey Jefferson.

LSU sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris was 8 of 11 for 103 passing yards in the first two quarters.

Fournette raced for a bowl record number of points rushing for four touchdowns and catching another. A few drives later, the Red Raiders would respond. Tech ranks 126 nationally against the run, allowing 271.8 yards per game.

However, a third-and-3 run went for no gain and Jamie Keehn entered to punt for the first time. In 2012’s Texas Bowl against Minnesota, Jakeem Grant returned a kickoff for a score the first time Texas Tech touched the ball.

Lsu Tigers rank at 53 for scoring 30.7 points where as Texas Tech Red Raiders rank at 122 for allowing 40.3 scores. Anything the wide receivers have done have been a bonus for Kliff Kingsbury’s offense.

LSU wide receiver D. J. Chark ran 79 yards for a TD.

LSU showed the Red Raiders they still have a ways to go. However, a false start stalled the drive and led to a punt from the LSU 42. This scenario played out when Texas Tech played at West Virginia and Grant was held to eight yards receiving.

Fournette added scoring runs of 43, four and two yards in the second half, setting a Texas Bowl individual record by scoring 30 points.

Running back Leonard Fournette wasn’t invited to NY for this year’s Heisman Trophy ceremony, but LSU’s sophomore standout didn’t let that snub deter him from shredding Texas Tech’s defense and making history during Tuesday night’s AdvoCare Texas Bowl. And while he didn’t rack up big yards, he did get a touchdown in there. The PAT reduced LSU’s lead to 21-20 with 10:28 left in the third quarter. With Texas Tech looking to take the lead, Patrick Mahomes was intercepted and LSU would ride the momentum from there, going on a 35-7 run to close out the game, to win the game 56-27.

The question is whether Texas Tech’s defense can force LSU to try something else. The computer is taking LSU to cover and the over on the point total.

Cam Cameron spent a good portion of the game forgetting that he has the best player in college football on his team.* At the half, LSU had almost a perfectly even split between runs and passes, which is a complete divergence from the team’s splits all year long. On the next play, Harris kept it for a 26-yard touchdown and a 42-20 lead with 9 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
