Slow start dooms Jaguars in 38-27 loss to Saints
Not all of those moves have paid immediate dividends, but Brees remains confident in the Saints’ direction.

“What about #Saints QB Drew Brees, who has a $30M cap figure in 2016?”
His contact, meaning his cap numbers, may preclude his return in 2016.
The name Sean Payton has been thrown around these days as a possible head coaching candidate for the Giants if the franchise waves goodbye to Tom Coughlin.
After a disappointing loss to the Lions last week, the Saints defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars who learned minutes before kickoff that they were eliminated from playoff contention. “He took a good portion of the (practice) reps on Friday, and at that point, we felt he was going to be able to go”. He stepped out onto the field despite what the team is saying about him behind closed doors. Tight end Josh Hill left Sunday’s win over Jacksonville after taking a hit to the head, but he had not been placed on injured reserve. It looked to me like it was Drew Brees sending a not so subtle message to the Saints front office of, “If you think I’m in decline, or taking a major pay-cut, or the Saints will be even a bad National Football League without me, you have lost your mind”. That sense is not shared by Brees himself. “Talk about respect – the highest respect for him and how he goes out and competes and he just really executes”.
The New Orleans Saints had a specific vision when they moved up from No. 27 to No. 20 in the 2014 draft, and also gave Arizona a third-round pick (No. 91 overall), in order to select Brandin Cooks.
In a Tuesday morning interview on NFL Network, Brees was asked if there was any scenario to where either him or Payton wouldn’t be back with the Saints next season.
The timing of the play was so good that Cooks hauled in a 71-yard touchdown pass on second-and-21 in the second quarter, his longest reception of the season and his eighth touchdown in the last eight games.
-PASSING OFFENSE: A. Quarterback Matthew Stafford was excellent once again, going 29 of 37 for 301 yards with two touchdowns and a 118.6 passer rating.
Hightower banged out 122 yards and scored twice.
The Jaguars did not play a single down inside Saints’ territory until the final three minutes of the half, but they finally got on the scoreboard with Bortles’ short TD pass to Lee just before halftime. He was 27-of-35 for 368 yards with four touchdowns. New Orleans came into Sunday’s game with an opponents’ passer rating of 116.5. In the case of second-year quarterback Blake Bortles, as well as top receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, the day didn’t go so poorly.

New Orleans (6-9) has already gone through plenty of overhaul, shaking up the front office, changing defensive coordinators and trading away several offensive pieces in order to start building a foundation. Actually, some believe that he doesn’t want to be back in New Orleans and may look to get out by being traded or bought out. With 537 yards of offense and their sixth win of the season, it was time for slight celebration.
