White House to hold state dinner for Canada’s prime minister
PRIME Minister Justin Trudeau will be receiving an honour that former prime minister Stephen Harper never got – a state dinner at the White House hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama on March 10.

Monday’s announcement that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will meet U.S. President Barack Obama on March 10 marks the first time a Canadian leader has been accorded a White House state dinner since then-prime minister Jean Chretien met then-president Bill Clinton 19 years ago.
Trudeau also disagreed with Obama’s decision to scrap the controversial pipeline project, a choice made just days after Trudeau took office in November.
Still, the 43-year-old Canadian leader has said he is looking forward to a “fresh start” with Obama, and there are signs of a budding partnership between the two.
Trudeau will attend the state dinner with his wife, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau.
The visit was announced while Obama was vacationing in Hawaii. For the protection of AP and its licensors, content may not be copied, altered orredistributed in any form. Doing so may result in civil and/or criminal penalties.
