Wounded forces have been ferried out.

Pakistan facilitated the first round of direct peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban group in Islamabad this year but the second round of the talks scheduled in July failed with the disclosure of the death of Taliban founder and supreme leader Mullah Mohammad Omar. Now, it’s a little bit more unclear what the US soldiers who are not a part of NATO’s mission are doing in Helmand ’cause there are definitely some units that are on a counterterrorism mission.
The Taliban statement regarding the British troops deployment said that before entering Afghanistan “they should have studied the history of their ancestors and should have learned a lesson from the repeated defeat”.
Sangin is an important prize for the Taliban. So our forces are like: “‘If they don’t cooperate, why should we help them?'” he said.
Mohammad says Afghan reinforcements have arrived in Sangin, backed by special operations forces that were dispatched earlier in the week.
Corruption’s been a problem for the Afghan military for a long time, and the “ghost troops” issue is apparently still looming large, with Helmand MPs saying that in some cases, battalions of 400 troops have only about 150 real troops. What is the strategic importance of the district? I haven’t gotten any reports that they are actually in Sangin, but I also haven’t been able to get any confirmation from the USA forces about what they’re actually doing there.
As fresh supplies of ammunition make their way to Afghan forces battling the Taliban, many locals from Sangin have fled their homes.
“This is probably the worst of the scenarios that the British had in 2013 and 2014”.
He warned that all of Helmand could fall to the Taliban if the President didn’t take action.
Fighting around the town has escalated in the past week, and by Wednesday the militants said they had captured all of Sangin, pinning down government troops in an army barracks.
Shadi Khan, a tribal elder in Sangin who is also director of the Sangin District Council, said he was trapped in the Sangin army base for three days before government forces arrived.
However, Abdul Samad, Afghan army sergeant, told Reuters news agency that soldiers were able to fight back the Taliban in Nad-e Ali, where fighters had cut off water supplies for local residents.

In Washington, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the nation’s thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and their loved ones, and that the US will continue to work jointly with Afghans to promote peace and stability in their country. “But it’s when they’re left to their own devices that they seem to struggle”.
