Pellegrini: We should have beaten Leicester
Tuesday’s goalless draw against second place Leicester was City’s first clean sheet in the league this season without its Belgian captain.

The Belgium defender suffered a recurrence of the calf injury that kept him out for eight games after coming on as a substitute in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Sunderland. We haven’t been playing that well away from home lately, but we’ve come to a team who are second in the table on merit – I think we played well overall and now we’ll move on to the next game.
“I am not a doctor but normally with a muscle injury less than three or four weeks is very hard, especially on the calf”.
After seeing his side fail to win on the road in the Premier League for a sixth successive game, goalkeeper Joe Hart urged third-placed City to improve on their away results.
“That’s why I repeat, not happy but not disappointed also because we played well but we couldn’t score”.
Barring the last week, it seemed like there could be nothing that could stop Leicester City as they continued their fine form this season.
With their title credential under the microscope after defeat at Liverpool on Boxing Day, Leicester responded with a typically hard-working performance and were a match for City. “We will know if we are in the FA Cup and the final of the Capital One Cup and we have five or six very important Premier League games”. “We hope he recovers as soon as he can, but it is very important that we try to continue without Vincent defending as we did tonight”.
Manchester City dictated for long periods of the first half with Sterling a constant menace.
“I think we did more than Leicester to win the game”, Pellegrini said.
The Foxes were boosted greatly before kick-off as they named star striker Vardy in their starting XI, despite the Premier League’s top scorer being a doubt due to a fever.
“It is a game we could and should have won but we did not”. “The reaction was good, we played calm, we tried to do our job and go and try to win the match”. I’d love this to continue but it’s not easy.

“We’re a very good team ourselves, we’ve proven that at the back end of last season and we’re halfway through this season and we’re still up there in the mix”.
