Violators of the scheme would attract a penalty of Rs. 2,000.
Bassi and Rai deliberated at length on how to ensure coordination between Delhi Police and the city government for effective enforcement of the ambitious scheme aimed at significantly reducing air pollution.
It also issued notice to the Delhi government on another issue raised by advocate Manoj Kumar, who filed a joint PIL with Gunjan Khanna, a petitioner who commutes from Noida, challenging the December 28 notification related to odd-even scheme to check pollution in the capital.
“Delhi Police will assist odd-even implementation to protect environment”. A total of 200 volunteers will be deployed along with traffic cops in each assembly segment of the city at all check posts, entry and exit points and at places where traffic halts for sometimes because of red lights.
Those who violate the odd-even rule will be allowed to go home after they pay Rs 2,000 fine, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said today. The city government has already tied up with Twitter for real-time information on availability of public transport for commuters.
Earlier, CP Bassi had warned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers to keep the idea of Rule of Law and Vigilantism at bay. Traffic management in Delhi, in general, has several dimensions. But there were some misunderstandings which were cleared in the meeting with the Delhi Police Commissioner yesterday. “Volunteers would be there to create awareness among the public”, he added.

They will be attached with government teams, which might be headed by SDMs, transport department officials or teams of Delhi Traffic Police. The police commissioner said he was ready to cooperate with the Delhi government during the dry run on December 30 and during the implementation of the scheme.
