Kelly was sacked as coach of the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, with one game remaining in the season.

A group of Patriots fans claim they called Chip Kelly on the phone hours after the coach was sacked by the Eagles, and he actually picked up the call.

By letting Kelly go a week before the end of the regular season, the Eagles will get a head start on their coaching search. Lurie, of course, gave Kelly the power over all personnel decisions last January following two 10-6 seasons. Along with senior advisor Tom Donahoe, they will act in the traditional general manager role.
Obviously there are other factors that led to the firing which Lurie didn’t rip Kelly for.
More than that, Chip Kelly isn’t really a good fit for the Bucs. Kelly also dealt quarterback Nick Foles for quarterback Sam Bradford in a move in which he also sacrificed the Eagles’ second-round draft choice in 2016.
The Washington Redskins hammered the Eagles 38-24 on Sunday, eliminating Philadelphia from the race for the NFC East title and sealing Kelly’s fate.
“I am determined and excited to select a new coach to help us obtain our ultimate goal”, Lurie said. Lurie hinted at that when he talked about having a meeting with players on Wednesday, with more meetings scheduled for next Monday.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie made it official with a letter to season-ticket holders that also served as a news release. His coaching style may have worked at the collegiate level but specifically, it appeared as though he did not utilize DeMarco Murray, who was the NFL’s leading rusher last season with the Cowboys, effectively.
Kelly had massive success at OR before jumping to the NFL. “I think they had tension in the front office and anytime that happens, the top guys aren’t getting along, it’s going to trickle down and affect the team”, Johnson said.

Lurie said the Eagles hadn’t ruled out any candidates for the new head coaching job. And as I mentioned before, free agent players and players the Titans wish to trade for will be more interested in coming to play for a guy like Kelly. Johnson said he and his teammates often felt uncomfortable going directly to Kelly with their concerns.

“I think the best approach is a real collaborative approach”, he said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because Lurie will address Kelly’s dismissal on Wednesday.
