Sherlock The Abominable Bride – spoilers!
“Let’s do a whole film and do it properly – not tongue-in-cheek”, co-creator Steven Moffat said in an assembled press interview.

“It kind of felt like a holiday, like mufti day at school or something”, Freeman told BANG Showbiz, as quoted by the Mirror, when asked whether he and Cumberbatch enjoyed dressing more traditionally.
Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Imitation Game”) and Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit”) return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the acclaimed modern retelling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic stories. “That makes them the only two who’ve done both [period and contemporary] – apart from [Basil] Rathbone and [Nigel] Bruce, who we venerate, of course”.
According to BBC’s behind the scenes feature, Victorian London will be eerie and spooky with fog-laden, dark and damp corners and alleyways.
“Now we’re doing one that’s in the authentic setting – It affects everything”. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. “More uptight”, said Moffat. “There was a little bit of resistance from the BBC, (thinking) ‘are we just going mad here?’ But the key is it’s absolutely the same show – same sensibility, same humour, same people”, he said.

“Then, we had to sort of justify that…and really, the one thing that doesn’t travel to the modern day about Sherlock Holmes is the Victorian ghost story”, Moffat revealed. You don’t necessarily want to have sex someone just because you love them, do you know what I mean? “They respect each other, they bring different things to their friendship”. But now our heroes find themselves in 1890s London. “Beloved characters Mary Morstan (played by Amanda Abbington), Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) also turn up at 221b Baker Street”. “The stage is set. The curtain rises. We are ready to begin”, says Sherlock Holmes in the trailer, which can be viewed below.
