Denver Broncos: Quarterback situation becomes more ambiguous with loss to Steelers
The Denver Broncos announced Wednesday that Brock Osweiler will remain the team’s starting quarterback while Peyton Manning continues to rehab from a torn plantar fascia. That’s why I love being a Denver Bronco. Osweiler is 3-2 in his five starts. If Osweiler turns in another ho-hum performance, though, Manning could be back under center come Week 16.

He returned to practice with the team last week, but there was a setback in his recovery Thursday and he’s regressed back to practicing on his own. If the Denver Broncos hope to improve their seeding in the AFC’s playoff race, they must show improvement on the offensive end. Denver is riding a two-game losing streak going into Monday night’s clash at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
After trailing most of the game, the Denver Broncos seized the lead, 17-14, early in the fourth quarter over the Cincinnati Bengals. If Manning is healthy, Kubiak will have an interesting decision to make next week as the Broncos prepare for their first playoff game. Though Denver has deep threat players in both Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas, they are using them quite a bit in middle areas of the field.
Osweiler’s numbers are so far career-bests for him, since this is the first season that he was really given ample playing time due to Manning’s injury. And although he is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL, his age and injuries has began to affect his ability to play to his full potential, and consistently be successful in the league. In the two weeks before that, Kubiak didn’t name a starter until the day after his team played. “It’s been an interesting year, I’m not going to lie about that”. Kubiak said. “It’s just, ‘Let’s go, let’s have a good week, let’s work.’ That’s what he did”.

“They were all good workouts this week”, Kubiak said. “We get him out there practicing and covering everything in the meetings”. It vanished against the Raiders, reappeared in the first half against the Steelers, and then dissolved again as the Broncos found themselves in long-yardage situations as mistakes accumulated and their 17-point lead evaporated.
