Political storm in Chhattisgarh over “leaked tapes” to fix by-election
The case which involves former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi, his son, and current Chief Minister Raman Singh’s son-in-law Punit Gupta who – according to the report publish on Wednesday – had made financial transactions which led to the withdrawal of Congress candidate Manturam Pawar from Antagarh seat on the very last moment in August 2014.

Congress candidate Manturam Pawar had then withdrawn his candidature.
Accusing the TMC government of using taxpayers’ money to “spread the falsehood” about the state’s economic growth through nationwide advertisements, the BJP leader, who is also party’s co-incharge of the state, said it was a “blatant distortion of statistics” and Bengal’s “very low” economic base was the main reason behind such a growth.
As the issue of an alleged deal between a segment of the Chhattisgarh Congress leaders and people close to Chief Minister Raman Singh over the September 2014 Antargarh by-election snowballing into a controversy, the grand old party has issued a showcause notice to Ajit Jogi’s son Amit Jogi.
The Congress did cry foul and demanded that the election be counter-manded, but to no avail as, going by the book, the Election Commission went ahead with the polls. We are asking the government to include our leaders also in that probe. Since the Chief Minister holds a top Constitutional post in the State, he should immediately be asked to ensure a fair probe…The Congress also assures that it will take appropriate action against its leaders after the probe finds anything against them.
Party sources said Chhattisgarh Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel will formally write to Sonia Gandhi, demanding action against Jogi since he is a member of the Congress Working Committee and the state unit can not take action against him. “I clearly deny allegations as the report is baseless”.
Hariparsad said PCC has issued a show cause notice to Amit Jogi and asked him to explain the matter within seven days. It’s not the first time Jogis have been targeted; it was also after Darbha Maoist attack on Congress convoy. He joined the BJP in March this year.

The taped conversations indicate money transaction and suggest the Congress nominee had met Raman Singh before the bypoll. Meanwhile, state BJP and chief minister Raman Singh clarified that Dr Punjeet Gupta is a government servant and he has nothing to do with political activities.
