Chicago Mayor to Equip Officers With Tasers
Numerous placards and chants targeted Mayor Rahm Emanuel, calling on the Chicago Democrat and onetime White House chief of staff to President Barack Obama to step down.

In saying the number of Tasers will be doubled, Emanuel mentioned the McDonald shooting.
According to NBC Chicago, Rahm and the city’s Interim Police Superintendent John Escalante will host a press conference at 2pm on Wednesday. Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged in the 2014 murder of Laquan McDonald, 17, more than a year after his death.
Emanuel promised to rebuild the trust between the police department and the city’s residents.
He says, “Every city is going through a change in police practice, tactics and culture”.
It will examine whether the cameras have any impact on the use of force, police decision-making and citizen complaints. He noted that on audio recordings of communications between dispatchers and officers on the scene that night, several officers can be heard “frantically” asking for a Taser before the shooting.
Emanuel on Wednesday announced changes in Chicago police training and the use of force.
NBC Chicago added that more than 700 Tasers will be added to the Chicago Police Department – more than twice the current amount.
The law enforcement source said the officer, whom the source would not name, has been placed on a 30-day administrative leave, assigned to the Harrison District for administrative duties, per the department’s new policies.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, under pressure from community activists to resign since the McDonald video was released, returned to Chicago after cutting short a family vacation in Cuba, spokesman Adam Collins said late Tuesday night.
There is a use-of-force module for every type of interaction officers have from the time they arrive at a scene, and the new policies will be emphasized in each module layer.
Pearson’s organization believes the only way to bring true change is for Chicago to have a civilian police accountability council that isn’t appointed by the mayor. Emanuel and the department have faced heavy criticism over officers’ treatment of suspects, including the 2014 killing of a black teenager who was shot 16 times. But Pearson says that didn’t stop police from fatally shooting two people last weekend.

“The people have no trust in the police. They have no trust in the mayor”. Chicago police killed two people, a 55-year-old woman who was shot accidentally and a 19-year-old man police described as “combative” before he was shot. He and his neighbor Bettie Jones were shot and killed by police.
