Flocking media and a trio of looming helicopters attracted crowds at both locations. The victim lay down on the couch, and Cosby positioned himself behind her. “Why?” one bystander cried.
Andrea Constand pressed the criminal charge against the actor, claiming he drugged and sexually assaulted her athis Philadelphia home back in 2004. In the Pennsylvania case, the statute of limitations was set to expire early next year.
“We made this determination because it was the right thing to do.”, said Montgomery County prosecutor Kevin Steele.
Constand has not commented on this development but one of her attorneys, Dolores Troiani, expressed gratitude on her behalf.
Tripping once, and walking with an unsteady gait and the aid of a cane, Cosby appeared throughout the afternoon flanked by his attorneys.
Attorney Gloria Allred, who represents 29 alleged victims of actor… More than 40 women have come forward to publicly accuse Cosby, 78, of assaulting them over four decades, most saying he drugged them first.
Steele says that after seeing the deposition material “reopening this case was not a question, rather it was our duty”. “Sometimes that means whenever it comes to light”, said Steele.
“Reopening this case was not a question”.
“The evidence is strong and sufficient enough to proceed with the charges”, Steele added. During Wednesday’s press conference when the charges were announced, Steele asked anyone with similar experiences to come forward. Attempts by the newspaper to reach Pugh on Wednesday were unsuccessful.
In Pennsylvania, the law allows prosecutors to bring charges up to 12 years after some sex crimes.
When Constand first met Cosby, she was the director of operations for Temple’s women’s basketball team. He also allegedly placed her hand on him in an intimate location.
Cosby called the next day to invite Constand and her mother to meet with him in person, according to the criminal complaint.
But his attorneys have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing by Cosby, who has gone from megastar to pariah in the face of the allegations, which span four decades. It is alleged that he plied this young woman with alcohol and some unidentified drugs, at which point she was rendered helpless, barely if at all conscious, and then sexually assaulted. In court papers, prosecutors said the drugs were the cold medicine Benadryl or some other, unidentified substance. This year, Castor said the allegations in Constand’s lawsuit were more serious than the account she gave police.
“I’ve never seen anything like this”, she said of the charge, but lamented that for many alleged victims, justice would never be an option.
Cosby was fingerprinted at a police station near the Elkins Park courtroom.

Apparently, Cosby did not receive the message, prosecutors say, because made a second pass at Constand during a subsequent encounter. He reportedly agreed in court to have no contact with his accuser. The decision by his boss, newly elected District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman, reverses a decision by her predecessor who had ruled that there was not enough evidence to warrant an arrest.
