Delhi government lists exemptions to its ‘odd-even’ formula
The scheme, which will be implemented for 15 days, has been proposed to curb pollution in the national capital by restricting movement of private vehicles based on their registration numbers. “The Delhi government is also building by-pass corridors to avoid trucks (Haryana and Uttar Pradesh route only) entering Delhi”.

On a plea by an advocate Rahul Aggarwal seeking exemption for lawyers from the scheme, the bench said if it allows them to use their vehicles then this court will be flooded with litigation from doctors and other officials, who have not been included in the list of 25 exempted categories.
Thousands of policemen and volunteers are out on the roads of Delhi today to prep for a new odd-even rule for cars that will be enforced from Friday to clean up the world’s most polluted capital.
But the court asked the government to reply by January 14 to the petition, filed by the Action Committee of Unaided Recognised Private Schools.
Cars being driven by a woman alone or even while being accompanied by children up to the age of 12 would be exempted while cases of medical emergencies would be treated on “basis of trust”, the CM had announced.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier said that the scheme has received all the necessary approvals and a notification for its implementation would be issued next Monday. The plea also states that the exemption to women drivers is “arbitrary and discriminatory”.
He said vehicular pollution was the main reason “why all are here…”
The Delhi government has directed all city schools to shut from January 1-15 during the trial period of its odd-even formula, when cars will be allowed to run on alternated days, based on the last digit of its number plate, to cut air pollution.
“Granting exemption to two wheeler vehicles from odd-even scheme is arbitrary and discriminatory”.

One of the petitioners has claimed “imposition of such a policy/law would be contrary to public interest and has been imposed without any public debate or discussion and without understanding situation and facts and circumstances in India”.
