USA comic Bill Cosby has been charged with sexual assault in Pennsylvania over an incident that took place in 2004, a prosecutor said Wednesday – the first criminal charges filed against the actor after dozens of women claimed abuse.

Cosby has been accused by dozens of women of sexual misconduct; many of them came forward in the past year. The entertainer has previously said under oath that he had consensual sexual contact with the woman.
In 2005, Constand claimed that Cosby, drugged and sexually attacked her while she worked as a manager for the women’s basketball team at Temple University.

Announcing the charges, the District Attorney said Cosby invited the victim into his home, plied her with wine and pills before assaulting her on his couch.
Cammarata said he knows Cosby admitted in a deposition he had sex with Serignese after giving her Quaaludes but he didn’t know whether she consented.
Most of the alleged acts have exceeded the 12-year statute of limitations for criminal legal proceedings, but several civil lawsuits have been brought against Cosby.
At least 58 women have come forward to Cosby of similar, drug-aided assaults, including writer Sammie Mays and former Playboy bunny Sarita Butterfield, both of whom also spoke to TMZ. “And I remember that”, she said to WPBF.
“After reviewing the initial investigation, re-interviewing some witnesses, examining other evidence in the civil case and information from other alleged victims, it was determined that the evidence warranted the filing of criminal charges against Cosby”. This year, Castor said the allegations in Constand’s lawsuit were more serious than the account she gave police.
She told him she was drained and he said he wanted her to relax. And so I continue and I go into the area that is somewhere between permission and rejection. He said he groped Constand, taking her silence as a green light. “I am not stopped”.
“She is receiving numerous communications from women with heart-wrenching accounts of their own experiences”, Dolores Troiani said.
Prosecutors said Cosby used wine and drugs to render her incapable of resistance after “the much younger, athletic” Constand blocked two previous sexual advances.
“Mr. Cosby deserves a fair trial”, added Allred.

Cosby’s lawyer declined to comment on the charge before the announcement. In the 2005 deposition, the comedian told police that, after the alleged sexual assault, he called Constand’s mother to apologize, and then called her again to offer to pay for Andrea to attend graduate school.
