In a statement, attorney Monique Pressley said: “The charge by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office came as no surprise”. He did not enter a plea and spoke only to say he understood the charges read to him, and to ask for clarification on the terms of his $1?million bail. He was later seen leaving the station, CNN reported.
It is the first time Cosby, 78, has been charged with any offence after months of accusations. Cosby has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing.
She was “frozen, paralyzed, unable to move”, Montgomery County District Attorney-elect Kevin Steele said. His lawyers didn’t comment.
The case deals with a former Temple University employee who told police Cosby drugged and violated her at his home near Philadelphia. Apparently, Bill tried to say that their alleged encounter was consensual, but as of 2015, many are doubting that’s the case.
When Constand finally confided in her mother about the assault, it triggered a series of events that ultimately led to the charges against Cosby.
“That gave prosecutors enough evidence to go forward”.
Constand settled the civil case against Cosby in 2006.
It’d be up to a judge to determine whether a deposition could proceed involving accusers other than Constand.
“A prosecutor’s job is to follow the evidence wherever it takes us”. Upon hearing about the charges, fans in NY and New Jersey were disappointed.
Previously, Johnson reacted to the release of Cosby’s 2005 admission that he obtained Quaaludes to give to young women, saying that she was pleased that “women are really being heard”.
“Power corrupts and a lot of cases, and makes them massive egos”, said Fiona Smith of Ireland.
“There’s inconsistencies on [what pills they were]”. Fairlie said that the prosecution “is certainly going to argue that under a ‘common scheme theory, ‘ modus operandi essentially, that this is a signature crime”.
A black SUV carrying Cosby pulled up to a small Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, courthouse, surrounded by media, around 2:30 p.m, where he walked into the building with his attorney and his wife on either side. Television network NBC canceled plans for a new television show with Bill Cosby because the number of women accusing the comedian of sexual assault reached a level that tainted the project, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said on Friday.
In court, he agreed to have no contact with the accuser.
“I never imagined that my favorite comic would be involved in such things as this”, said Linda Brienza of North Plainfield, New Jersey. It would take a decade, a village of voices and a DA enlightened in the complexities of sexual assault to make the allegations of one woman credible and admissible.
He urged any other alleged victims to come forward as well. A short time later, she claimed, she became dizzy, her vision blurred and she struggled to speak.
Wednesday’s arraignment is the result of sworn statements Cosby gave during the 2005 investigation that weren’t unsealed until this past summer. “In cases of rape and abuse, abusers will do whatever they can to intimidate and weaken their victims to force them to stop fighting”.
The criminal charges quickly caught the attention of others who have accused the entertainer.
Comedian Bill Cosby was charged on Wednesday with sexually assaulting a woman in 2004 after plying her with drugs and alcohol, marking the only criminal case against a once-beloved performer whose father-figure persona was damaged by dozens of misconduct accusations.
Attorney Spencer Kuvin represents model Chloe Goins, who alleges Cosby incapacitated her with a drink and assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles in 2008.
He said Constand was not upset when she left that night.

Paul Smith, who grew up in the city, said he recalls “urban myths” about Cosby always swirling.
