‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ premieres in Shanghai
I repeat, The Force Awakens was released 11 days ago.

The Force Awakens has been criticized for being a retread of A New Hope, which is true to some extent.
Disney also had the third and fourth highest grossers this year with “Avengers: Age of Ultron” with $459 million and “Inside Out” with $356.5 million as the Pixar title became a surprise blockbuster.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opened in theaters across the globe on Friday December 18, and it has already destroyed several cinema records, rising to the tops of the charts. And the 25-year-old “Twilight” star added on a “Hollywood Reporter” podcast: “It’s literally mainly just about focusing on what makes you happy”. The average number of films making $25M+ in a calendar year during that time frame is 104, which begs the question as to whether this is a “one off” year or if subsequent years are only going to continue to get more and more top heavy.
The previous record of $10.9 billion was set in 2013. Including the early Thursday showings on December 17, Star Wars has been in theaters for 13 days as of Wednesday.
Only two movies to date have passed the two billion dollar mark, both directed by James Cameron; Titanic ($2.186 billion) and Avatar ($2.788 billion).
This actually sounds really fun because one thing J.J. Abrams did was, while he certainly paid homage to the Original Trilogy with The Force Awakens, he also took his own path, and made the film his own…separate from George Lucas. The highest grossing film of all time is “Avatar”, which raked in US$2.8 billion globally. With a domestic total of over $350 million, 99.6% of American Sniper’s domestic box office was earned in 2015.

Nearly bigger than the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie itself is the online fear of the major plot points of the film being spoiled for those who have not seen it yet. “2015 was like a football game, “Star Wars” may have provided a game winning kick at the end of the game, but every film released throughout the year contributed to this record breaking year”. He told a news conference Monday that he was thrilled to see people “laughing and cheering in exactly the same places that we’ve seen other audiences”. But, the controversy didn’t stop crews from returning to the site a few weeks later to film additional footage, rumored to be for Episode VIII.
