His comments echo other calls for action made by the families of Jones and LeGrier at a news conference Sunday.
Herbert said Tuesday that he was continuing to consider such a request, but for now was satisfied with the selection of Gaughan, of the Circuit Court of Cook County, to hear the case. Police opened fire, and both LeGrier and Jones were shot.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel is expected to reveal his plan for changes within the Chicago Police Department on Wednesday.
Grieving relatives and friends of two people shot and killed by Chicago police said Sunday the slayings raised concerns about why officers “shoot first and ask questions later”, saying the city failed residents even as a…

The cop hasn’t been named yet, but has been put on desk duty for the next 30 days as Chicago’s Independent Police Review Authority investigates the case. Van Dyke, who is charged with murder, pleaded not guilty Tuesday.
