Drew Brees spotted in walking boot after Lions loss
The victory improved the Lions to 5-9 on the season, while the Saints also dropped to 5-9.

Brees’ late touchdown to Ben Watson closed the gap with 1:55 left, but New Orleans’ onside kick was recovered by Detroit star Calvin Johnson, and the Lions marched deep into Saints territory before Matt Prater missed a field goal with 9 seconds left.
In the fourth, the Saints offense continued to ratchet up the pressure.
What Monday night’s result temporarily decided is that the New Orleans Saints will likely have a higher draft choice than Detroit, but there are two more weeks to decide that positioning.
The Lions surged into a 28-3 lead only for the Saints – on the back of a pair of Drew Brees touchdown passes – to get back to 28-20 with around 10 minutes left. Over his last six games, he’s bumped that up almost 10 full points and now ranks in the top half of all quarterbacks in passer rating.
-WR Corey Fuller was inactive for just the second time this year as the Lions went with TJ Jones as the No. 4 receiver. Whether or not he’s part of the team moving forward, Brees deserved better.
Detroit were beaten by the Rams 21-14 last week but the Lions picked up their fifth win of the season courtesy of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who completed 22-of-25 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
“Obviously, if you complete 88 percent, that’s rare”, Lions coach Jim Caldwell said. “He spread it around quite a bit”. Head coach Sean Payton is still talking as if that’s a possibility. Brees has quietly had a pretty darn good year, even if he’s not up among the league’s very best anymore. They’re “warriors.” If an injured player needs to be out of the game, the team needs to make that decision on his behalf.
-RUN DEFENSE: A. The Lions held another team under 70 rushing yards as the Saints finished with 69 on 18 carries.
So what did we expect from the game? “We certainly didn’t want to give (quarterback Drew) Brees any more opportunities”. Brees ranks behind only Peyton Manning (71,871), Brett Favre (71,838) and Dan Marino (61,361) in career yards passing.
Brees, who was listed as day-to-day by Payton on Wednesday even though the team didn’t practice, is getting a second opinion from renowned foot and ankle specialist Dr. Richard Anderson on the MRI he had done Tuesday.
Brees hurt his right foot in the first half, but didn’t come out of the game. Brandin Cooks caught 10 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.
Burton, the rookie out of Rutgers University, has made his presence felt all season, helping the Lions in pass coverage and leading the way for a committee of running backs. New Orleans has had losing seasons three of the past four years.
At 53 games, the 5-play, 69-yard drive ended with a 27-yard TD and a place in history.
