Brutal Daily News editorial puts the Bill Cosby accusations into perspective
Earlier in the day, an arrest warrant for the 78-year old comedian was issued in conjunction with a 2004 case in which he’s accused of drugging and sexually violated former Temple University employee Andrea Constand.

By that time, she had quit her job at Temple and returned to Canada to pursue a new career as a massage therapist.
She is one of more than 50 women who have publicly accused Cosby of sexually assaulting them in incidents that date back to the 1970s. Almost all of those allegations have proven too old to prosecute. You know, frozen, paralyzed, unable to move.
“I am aware of the statements from Bill Cosby”, Johnson said in a statement.
Then-District Attorney Bruce Castor declined to charge Cosby, saying at the time that the comedian and his accuser could be portrayed in “a less than flattering light”. In that role, she meets renowned alumnus Bill Cosby, who becomes her mentor and friend.
The timing of the announcement of the criminal charge comes just as numerous depositions were scheduled to begin in a MA civil case against the comedian. But a former district attorney declined to charge Cosby in 2005.
In 2006, Cosby’s accuser, Andrea Constand did settle a civil suit, but no criminal charges were filed. Asked if she was happy charges had been laid, she offered no comment – just a hint of a smile.
BASIC QUESTIONS Police describe many of Cosby’s various statements as full of contradictions on basic questions such as what drug he told people he once gave to Constand.
In the criminal complaint, Constand says Cosby told her the pills were herbal, and after taking them she lost her strength, but was was aware of Cosby “fondling her breasts” and of “his hands into her trousers”. “We’re hopeful”, Kuvin said.
Constand told police she woke up at 4 a.m. the next morning with her sweater bunched up and her bra undone.
“I’ve always been personally a Cosby fan”, Kosak said.
So what’s changed? The current prosecutor, Kevin Steele, claims that they have new evidence to charge Cosby with. One woman said Cosby had a special briefcase with compartments for different pills. “But at the same time, some of them have to be telling the truth”.
Under rules of evidence in Pennsylvania, prosecutors can introduce allegations brought by the other women if those allegations establish a mode of operation or pattern of behavior by Cosby.
Montgomery County, Pa., prosecutors have charged Cosby with three counts of aggravated indecent assault. The 12-year statute of limitations to file felony charges in connection to those allegations expires in January.
Cosby has not previously been charged with a crime.
In October, Allred grilled Cosby under oath for several hours in connection with Huth’s lawsuit, which accuses him of sexual battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
As part of their deal, the two sides signed a confidentiality agreement – but the records were unsealed at the request of the Associated Press, in part because the judge in the case said he regarded Cosby as something of a public servant who can be expected to forfeit some privacy protections, as Eyder reported for the Two-Way.
The Pennsylvania charges may give the D.A.’s office “a little bit more confidence” that another D.A. was willing to file charges in a case like this that happened “so long ago”, he said. “Rather, reopening this case was our duty as law enforcement officers”.

Cosby’s lawyers are likely to fight any effort to introduce the deposition transcript at a trial.
